I have a book of ideas. A safe place where I write down makeup and photoshoot concepts as they come. I’m always excited to have the opportunity to bring these ideas to life, and I’ve finally completed my most favorite one yet. A makeup transformation of different beauty makeup styles on the same model. Providing a visual to the importance of a professional makeup artist and what we can bring to a clients project. Also showing how one person can be seen in ways you wouldn’t expect.

This concept has been an idea for years now, and I finally felt that I was at the level in my artistry where I could do it justice, and what better time than to pair it with a long overdue relaunch of my portfolio website.

The photoshoot turned out better than I could have imagined when I first scribbled it down, and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.

Drawing inspiration from the vintage NARS, Makeup Your Mind book. I tapped into the beautiful canvas of Nina Darr at Select Model Atlanta. A chameleon in her own right, she was the perfect fit for this beauty shoot and for the intro to the new makeupbysaj.com.

My inspiration for this creative beauty shoot came from the never ending struggle of finding your perfect foundation match. As a person of colour, we know all too well how difficult it can be and how forgotten we feel within the beauty industry. The past few years have seen a major shift in producing cosmetics with a global complexion range, and I truly hope that it continues. I look forward to the day when diversity is no longer a buzz word, but the modus operandi.

Saj Mack Imats Atlanta Demo. Model: Maryum Rabia

I received the honour of being a speaker and demo artist at the first IMATS Atlanta 2018. I couldn’t have been more thrilled to be a participant!

For my demo, I immediately thought about doing one of my creative over the top ideas, because after all it’s an expo! We’re all here to see the magic and the fantasy. But the more I thought about it, the more I felt that it would be a disservice to the artist and students who would be present. Sure I can show you how I create a super fantasy avant garde look but how will that serve you and your needs? especially the needs of our market? and that is what I wanted to cater to.

I decided on the demo being Beyond Basic Beauty. Showcasing the beginning of developing a clean commercial beauty look and working it towards a little editorial pizazz, for the IMATS of course :).

I really loved the end result and I hope I’ll be able to re create it soon for a beauty story.
